Vietnamese workers will soon return to Libya, after a turmoil last year which prompted the Vietnamese government to bring more than 10,000 workers home.

A number of Turkish contractors in Libya have pledged to re-recruit Vietnamese workers over the next six months, the Vietnam News Agency reported last week, citing the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.

The ministry said Turkish contractors also promised to settle unpaid salaries owed to Vietnamese workers who fled the country during the recent conflict.

Before the turmoil in Libya, 16 Turkish contractors employed Vietnamese guest workers, the Vietnam News Agency said.

Libya used to be an attractive market for Vietnamese workers as its firms could offer better salaries than several other markets. Each Vietnamese worker received minimum monthly salaries of approximately VND8 million (US$380), according to the Vietnam Labor Export Association.
